Adopt a Spot Cleanup

Just a reminder that this Saturday (4/16) is our Adopt a Spot clean up. The location is the bike path where the ramble ends by Market Street in Warren near the Del’s Lemonade. Solange will have mulch racks gloves and water. Please bring garden tools and more gloves. Meet at 9 a.m. for a run or 10 a.m. for just the clean up.

After 17 seasons, the Red Rooster Ramble could be getting a makeover… so many people have found their way into running through this small community event. RIRR has gained many members from the Ramble. But let’s face it, organizing it can be quite a commitment. More than 20 Thursdays throughout the Spring and Summer… registration, starting, water stops, finish line, recorded results, posting results, ordering food for the masses… it’s quite a commitment and our hats are off to Dave Simmons for 16 years of dedication and Brian and Jane for carrying the load in season 17. Some informal discussions have taken place among some members and locals as to what a future Ramble might look like. An idea that has been put forth is to reduce its scope and schedule… hearken back to the first years of the Ramble… what would you think about a Ramble that covers the Thursdays in June, July, and August… there would be no registration or numbers… there would be no cost… there would be a volunteer or two per week whose role would be to say GO at 630 pm and call out times from their watch at the finish line. It would be that week’s organizer’s discretion as to whether they tabulate results and whether they recruit an additional volunteer to have a water stop. There would not be any group food order. Runners could count on an accurate time on a measured course and fellow ramblers running alongside. A conversation will be had with the pub to see if they can offer some sort of limited menu for individual purchases.
It’s just an idea to preserve the longevity of the Ramble and provide a continued opportunity for us to gather and run and share a pint…

Anyone have any thoughts on this idea?
